Westen poses as an “Army of One”

Michael defends the hostages

One of the best episodes in my opinion thus far in this season. Previously, Mike and Sam quarantined Lucien, an old clock-shop owner and bomb maker, to find out who killed Max. From a distress signal Lucien made, his contact (the real criminal) made an appearance where Lucien was held captive and killed him through several rounds of gunfire which were also for Mike and Sam. Now, as Agent Pierce digs deeper into the investigation, it leaves Michael rushing toward answers from the “real” culprit in Max’s investigation. Time is running out as Mike gave Pierce the last piece of the puzzle which she knows is the answer.

The episode showcased one of the best plots similar to “Bad Breaks” (Season 3) when Jason Bly and Michael were about to go nuclear. Mike’s next move was to get more information on the man who framed him before Pierce did, so Sam agreed to cover that task with Fiona while he covered the job with Jesse which was no easy computer job. Jesse recruited Mike AND Madeline into something completely different. Madeline was instructed to take pictures of the operation and Mike was supposed to basically go in and help the security team. However, that security team had different intentions which didn’t involve pushing buttons but more so pulling triggers. Mike was really pulled into a pretty organized heist by hijackers involving hostages which Madeline became after the team swept the perimeter.

As a fellow hijacker, Mike had some advantage and control over the crooks’ actions which he used to separate them. Mike proposed that he should perform a roll count of all hostages to guarantee they have everyone. During the roll call, Mike discreetly briefs Madeline on progress and aloud tells her and everyone else that her job is to keep the hostages calm.

Michael’s only option was to pretend that “Jack Marsden” (a made up name from roll count) was missing who at first was apart of your average maintenance crew. After the bomb exploded which Michael created for a distraction, mystery man “Marsden” became a highly trained ex-ranger from special forces who’s out to kill all of them and save the hostages (Mike is so persuasive!!) Their faces screamed of a huge problem and disaster, so they took Mike’s advice and direction to split up.

Three of the crooks checked outside the area for the made-up ranger so that Michael could bail the hostages. One hijacker stayed behind for support and was choked to sleep by Mike so that he could reveal himself to the hostages. Once clear, Mike and Madeline guided the hostages toward a building nearby the open fence. The hijacker, who was unconscious, was given tranquilizer powder afterwards and Mike cut himself to sell the story. “Marsden” got the drop on them and was inside that building where the hostages were.

The crooks were sorta on to Mike because he had all the information, so to prove that he wasn’t involved in the rescue he convinced them that he’d kill the hostages. From in the building, a crook following covered him as he made his way to where the hostages were. Unfortunately, Madeline blurted out his identity which the crook believed from the start. It turned into a tussle the second Mike drop his gun but ended when Madeline hit the crook unconscious. On an ending note, Mike convinced the left over crooks that he would take out everyone including Marsden with his grenade since he faked his blood wound. This gave the hostages time to escape while Mike threw the grenade and basically faked his death (pulled a Larry). The crooks dropped their guard at a local hotel and were arrested (only 2 left).

Tune in next week for the last episode before the summer finale – “Better Halves”, when Sam and Jesse corner Max’s killer (9/1).
